37,760 Silent Phone Calls  [14/8/2006 12:13:33]

I really should stop just posting stuff and stop to talk for a while.

I picked up this article today on skynews under the offbeat section. In the UK they could fine him under the Ofcom regs at £5,000 a call, that would see a fine of £188m.

A Japanese man has been arrested after making 37,760 silent calls to directory inquiries.

The 44-year-old said he wanted to listen to the "kind" voices of female telephone operators.

He has admitted to making up to 905 calls a day from his mobile phone, according to the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper.

"When I made a complaint call once, the operator dealt with it very kindly, so I wanted to hear these women's voices," he reportedly told police in Hiroshima.

Police believe the calls, made between March and July this year, caused psychological distress to more than 100 telephone operators.

They have charged the man with obstructing the operations of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.

As he is not actually registered as acompany, can they fine him?. As i understand it if he is not registered as a company then he is not signed up to Ofcom regulations

Register company  [14/8/2006 16:39:59]

Hi Scott

He isnt a registered company so almost certainly couldnt be fined, being in Japan would also be a bit of a problem.

I was purely making a joke of the £188m fine.

Jason
