82ASK  [17/10/2005 12:00:43]

Have you heard of this new text service that guarantee's to answer questions you send to it.

Text a question to 82275.

My friend sent a text asking if it was possible to have a puddle of mud. Apparently you can and they backed it up with a quote from a scientific journal, very impressive.

I obviously had to disprove the fact they could answer any question so I asked them to confirm the (BHCC) busy hour call completion of a Harris 20/20 ACD.

They sent a text back saying they could answer it, case closed.

£1 per question in case anyone is wondering.

I wonder if it knows....  [17/10/2005 12:32:25]

What I've got for dinner tonight?!

Could be very useful down the pubquiz - it'd be easier than googleing on my P800.

But slightly more expensive!

you don't get charged if they can't answer.

Registered users get a discount: 83p per q

They have a promo for first time users where you can get two free questions: send any question to 82275 (82ASK on your mobile keypad) with the code '2FQ' in the message

I've never tried, can never think of anything weird enough!

Although must say that CCV offers access to a wide range of knowledge at excellent value!

Pub Quizzes?   [17/10/2005 15:46:01]

A similar but more restricted service is the Music Guesser. Call 2580 if you don't know the song being played and the service will listen to the song and text you the track title and artist.

It's allegedly quite handy in pub quizzes !

And the answer is  [17/10/2005 15:51:00]

Worms can't fall over as they do not have a backbone. However in some cases if a worm goes too far over the edge of something, it may fall over.

So now we know!

Thanks for the suggestion Jason!

Briliant you could have endless fun with it, I wonder where they answer these questions, it would certainly be an interesting place to work.

I wonder what they would say if I sent a text saying I live in Bristol and want a job, can I have one!

They do have positions available, I'm told.

I wouldn't have thought searching google all day and texting the answers to people was your thing, Mr Dickson?

Can anyone ever see SMS ever becoming a useful two way communication medium for customer service?

WOW!  [27/2/2006 00:46:51]

Forget worms!

I've just used my second free question on somethimg I've been trying to find out all night! (The difference between a Triumph TR4 and a 4a!) and as part of the same question where I could get a model from.

Very impressed!

Question...  [27/2/2006 12:09:40]

I've not tried this, but what I'm intrigued by is the quality of the results.

I mean, what guarantees do you get that the results are even moderately relevant/accurate and/or sufficiently detailed?

Also, sometimes it's not only the answers that are tricky - it's formulating the questions. So, doesn't anyone who uses this service run the risk of getting irrelevant answers due to the difficulties in communicating effectively with SMS?

Services like this will be based on lowest code to maximise any profit, at a £1 a go it is not a premium service.

If I was running this then I would be using Internet Search engines to establish the answers and I suspect that is exactly what this company is doing, hence no charge when they dont get an answer cos it was too complicated.

I used "ASK" about the worms falling over and got several results about kerbs and the like.

So really this service is for those too lazy to look at a reference site or to ask silly questions.
