Broadband recommendation?  [20/11/2006 09:27:59]

Hi,

The service from my current provider, Plusnet, has basically degraded continually over the past six months. Web access is okay, but ftp access (which I use a lot) is slower than I used to get via broadband, and despite having tried to get an answer out of them it's clear that things aren't about to improve.

So, I'm in the market for a decent (UK) broadband. Here's my shopping list:

Static IP address
Mac OSX-aware
No gimmicks or 'phone' or free modems or any of that nonsense
Monthly contract
As fast as it can be (8Mb with as fast upload as I can get)
Non-LLU or cable (exchange is still BT operated and I don't get cable)
Either cheap (with limited bandwidth and cheaply purchased Gbs) or unrestricted (I'll consider anything > 100Gb as unrestricted for argument's sake)

Willing to pay up to £22/month.

Recommend away!

I agree...  [21/11/2006 14:24:06]

John,

I too have been experiencing a downhill trend in the service from plusnet (which used to be excellent) and I have been looking for someone to replace it, however it is proving hard to match the features that PlusNet provide.

I am on the Premier product and use the domain management and DNS routing, have the fixed IP, use the CGI, and most of all I like the unlimited POP3 mailboxes, which I have not seen anywhere else.

I also like the fax-2-email, but i'm not too fussed about that.

So when.if you find a solution let me know.

I'm currently without ADSL whilst moving house and have experienced a nightmare to say the least with their CR team.

In my opinion they have been the victim of their own success in much the same wasy as Bulldog were! (Boy i'm glad I didn't take that job!)

Simon

All that said...  [4/9/2007 10:50:56]

I have recently moved away from my Be* area and am now back with PlusNet who seem to have worked very hard on their service etc.

At this time they have redeemed themselves, and the extra funding from BT following their buyout seems to be going straight into the network infrastructure.

Also if you just want a basic ADSL provider and someone else to host, give me a call John. I'm not advertising, because I don't run a business. But for CCV users I am willing to offer a service which is available to me as part of my web site design work (Privately)
