Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....  [14/10/2006 10:45:03]

We've had a wood-burning stove installed in our back living room, and I'm keen for temps to drop so that I can put it through its paces, so I'm all for snow... or at least a nice crisp frost :-)

Weather!  [14/10/2006 19:11:04]

Dry but cool up in Cheshire - little bit of sunshine, but I am sure we have the proper cold wintery stuff on the way!!!!

Let it snow...  [16/10/2006 08:46:53]

After spending Sunday splitting logs, I'm looking forward to getting a fire on the go.

Shouldn't have to wait long in Cheshire. I can see the peaks from the bedroom window - so as long as there's snow up there I think that counts!

Logs...  [16/10/2006 09:56:15]

Logs are my current obsession. I take it you've a stove or an open fire, then, Darryl? I had some fun last night cooking chili in a cast-iron casserole dish atop our new stove, heh heh...

Cast Iron Casserole...  [16/10/2006 13:05:07]

...Le Creuset by any chance? I've just got two new pots thanks to the wedding list and they're very nice.

We're working on getting a fireplace in the dinning room at present, until then the logs get used in the garden Chimenea whilst we're in the hot tub.

I've no idea what this has got to do with Call Centres....you and I should know better John!

Shirt Sleeves and Le Creuset Pans  [16/10/2006 15:47:12]

Yep, Darryl, a flame-orange Le Creuset 20cm cocotte, I believe it's called. Great thing - bought it ten years back and it still looks brand new (which is more than I can say for most things I bought ten years ago)...

Shirt Sleeves? Well, it's not exactly cold here but I did feel that it was a bit cooler over the weekend (and it's meant to get cooler). Which is good (for the stove) but bad (for the sunbathing ;-)

Wood burning stove...  [21/11/2006 14:27:38]

Got my parents one upto 700 degrees the other day, they were not best pleased, apparently at 750 the metal warps!

Depends...  [21/11/2006 14:40:48]

Depends on the material used in its construction - mine is cast iron which is quite happy at high temperatures. I think you're good for much higher temps than that (over a short period- I suppose over the longer term it could do some damage)...

Damn Expensive  [21/11/2006 14:44:26]

It should be made out of gold or platinum for the price they paid for it.

Personally i'm fine with my convector and storage heaters, although I can't get bread to rise as well on them or do toast on the storage heater!

Old Romantic  [21/11/2006 15:10:03]

Somehow I can't quite imagine a nice glass of red wine tasting the same with my feet up in front of a convection heater.

Or Scotch, in John's case!

Whisky...  [21/11/2006 15:50:45]

Well, Darryl,

I've offered you the chance to visit and sample a few of the finer, exclusive SMWS bottlings before, but you've yet to take me up on that offer.

And there's a big cosy stove to toast your feet with too...

I dunno, if things were reversed I'd jump at the chance :-)

John did you ever get anywhere with your whiskey plan a couple of years ago?

Plan  [22/11/2006 09:12:45]

No, I never chased it up. Here's a link: Bruichladdich cask offer.

I would be very interested in doing this, but it would of course require a commitment from anyone who was involved. I quite like the idea of having a few bottles tucked away for my son's 21st ;)

LCD Fire  [22/11/2006 11:07:28]

Personally the scotch and the red wine and the Honey Rum all taste just fine and dandy in front of my 50" LCD fire place!

Ah yes...  [22/11/2006 15:41:29]

I can see how that's the case.

I also expect that it makes rather a nice beach in the summer too!

Multi-purpose  [22/11/2006 22:03:47]

Yep excellent beach as well, not to mention its damn handy for working from home, god bless the man who invented picture-in-picture.

I'm wamring to this home working, but now I have to go back in the office as I am no longer signed off, will the boss buy not having me in the office I doubt it, hes been on the phone for the last month and a half.

So personal recommendation is: Wireless mouse and keyboard, 50" LCD and VPN into work, sorted.
