Boiler rooms [24/9/2004 21:28:57]
A guy I knew at a place I used to work got involved in one of these in either Hong Kong or Thailand (I can't remember which. The were selling Petrolium Futures. IIRC they threw the book in the Terry Pratchett manner.[1] On the other hand I once worked (on a very short lived ) sales contract for an American Telco where their trainer suggested watching the film The Boiler Room as an example of how to sell Telecoms. Anyone remembering or involved in this will remember the sight of an American Senior 'manager' shouting abuse of the "You're all crap useless people," nature at the sales staff on a crowded INBOUND calling floor. The contract didn't last long after that and I've never been so glad our Senior site manager was an ex Para. The American 'manager' in question got the facts of life relating to UK sales err... 'explained' to him in *VERY* simple terms:-) *Shudder* I've been trying to forget that for *A LONG* time. DaveA [1] "Guards guards", if you don't get the joke, and you WILL be hooked.

If you have seen the Boileroom then you should watch GlenGary GlenRoss, Coffees for closers all the original one liners. Pretty depressing film to be honest.
