VOIP in INDIA   [18/12/2004 17:59:43]

Hi,

We have been using VoIP very successfully in India over the last year and today have installed several installations using VoIP, believe me it works. However a word of caution here : When a provider offers you a Call Center solution based on VoIP you must look at the CTI being used here , this is of great importance.

Other factors governing VoIP , particularly in a country like India are factors like ISP: Latency - due to most ISP connectivity issues most Indian internet connections do not achieve latency figures of better than 250 ms. This is virtually a borderline for good quality VoIP. Higher latency causes great deterioration in voice quality. Another factor is of Packet Loss: when you use poor quality ISP last mile connectivity , you land with high packet loss, causing breaks in voice.

Several other factors too govern good VoIP and can mostly be mitigated by the use of correct ISP, correct equipment, correct software, correct Codec settings and so on.

In my experience with VoIP , I persnoally find that due to the ignorance of such technical factors governing good VoIP , many people have faced poor results with VoIP.

In this day and age of good internet availability, it would be a waste not to use VoIP, just ensure that your Tech Consultant knows what they are doing .
