An Unholy Union?  [19/5/2004 15:23:20]

Still being quite new in our office I haven't got involved with the union. What are peoples opinions of them, are they as much of a hinderence to a business as they are a benefit to its staff?

Any thoughts?

Roger

The Union  [19/5/2004 15:55:48]

5 years ago I was an agent working for ++ and paying my fees to the Communication Workers Union. I never found them any help at all, we didn't know it at the time but ++ were winding down the call centre and the number of agents was dropping rapidly due to some pretty unreasonable changes ++ were putting in place (they probably saved a fortune on redundancy). Everyone thought the good old Union can sort it out.

They did nothing at all and went as far as to tell us that as we were agency staff there was nothing they could do for us anyway, they obviously forgot to mention this fact when they signed us up to the Union in the fist place.

So my opinion from an ex-agent point of view is pretty grim.

From a management point of view I guess it would depend on the staff set-up, agency or none agency.
