why dont we...  [30/6/2004 13:39:16]

Other areas that have had negative press in the past, have opened their doors to the public by inviting the press into the inner sanctums.

BBC TV programs such as Hotel, Airline, Airport, Cruise Ship etc etc.

Would it be worth doing something similar,

I can just see the tv listing now.

Chris

BBC Real Life TV  [1/7/2004 13:52:34]

The only problem with reality TV is that it has to have "personalities", Jeremy snape - the Aeroflop gatekeeper who now does adverts for Euronics (what sort of a company name is that, sounds like something to flush you out), then there was Jane MacDonald from Cruise Ship nuff said on her.

When you think of the people who turn up working in call centres, can you imagine what would end up on TV and they would be the face of our industry.

I think that Michelle from BB works in a call centre in Newcastle.....

(My friend's hairdresser also cuts Michelle's aunt's hair. Apparantly)

Direct Line  [2/7/2004 10:11:34]

On the topic of perceptions does anyone think that new Direct Line adverts make callcentre staff look like a bunch of daydreamers looking for some excitement in an otherwise mundane day.

Best Practice...  [5/7/2004 14:07:52]

In the late nineties, when there was one of the first Modern Sweatshop portrayals of the industry, the local BBC company came into our centre to show our desk arrangements (Wow... I hear you cry) and staff working conditions. All this apparently because we had nice spacious desks and airy (drafty) offices, instead of windowless wharehouses with veal shed like cubicles. (Which is in my opinion a very bad example and one that I hope never existed.)

To the top  [16/2/2007 08:22:53]

I'm sitting in teh office early this morning looking through the news
and I've just found this...

BBC NEWS ARTICLE ONSHORING

Given the content and several recent High profile (although minor in the
scheme of things) incidents on the sub-continent, I thoughtI'd reopen
the debate.

Since the last post here in 2004.

1) Has the percetion of the industry ONSHORE changed? Both as
a place to work and as a service provider?

2) What happens next?

Personally I'm going to harp on about the press that villified us
5 years ago as the 'New Sweatshops' and the return of 'Dark Satanic Mills'
feel now forced to show us as the way forward.

I think we've finally been acknowledged as being a 'Proper Job' and
albeit at the expense of the sub-continent may finally have some degree
of respectability.

Companies are now beginning to appear on the best places to work lists
(Kwik Fit, Loans.co.uk to name two).

It's just amusing seeing the U-Turn in the press.

Oh and some nice commentry from Claudia there.

Thoughts?
