fyi: Symposium WebClient + Internet Explorer 7.0 = incompatible  [19/12/2006 16:06:40]

I wanted to mention to you that Internet Explorer 7.0 is not compatible with the Symposium WebClient. When you install it gives you the error that "you need at least version 5.5" to run this software. From the information I have been able to gather this is still a certification that Nortel is working on, until then they are informing us to "please refrain from downloading or upgrading to IE 7.0 for use with Nortel Multimedia Applications products". It is likely we will see a patch released by Nortel.

Not too much longer.  [19/12/2006 16:52:40]

Patch is due out on the 20th of December 2006 (Nortel time). So expect to see it next year.

This is also a probelm with all Nortel products that use a web interface. If you have CallPilot, DO NOT, let the call pilot server do an autoupdate.

In principle  [20/12/2006 06:30:56]

In principle you should avoid any software that locks you into a particular browser needlessly (and I'm sure this falls into this category). Especially a broken piece of nasty malware such as IE...

Humm...  [20/12/2006 10:50:04]

IE bashing is normally MY job!

Opera, Firefox, Konqueror.

All good options.

IE is the corporate king  [20/12/2006 16:12:25]

I don't use IE at home, but at work (as I would guess is true with most work environments) IE reigns supreme as the only authorized browser.

I can't wait for IE users to start bragging about tabbed browsing only so i can shoot back I've been doing it for the better part of a decade on alternate browsers.

I wouldn't mind the patch  [27/12/2006 20:00:16]

or just knowing where I can get it and a quick brief about it.

Overtime can definetly be a good thing.

IE7 Patch.  [28/12/2006 11:36:10]

The patch is available from Nortel Patch Library, unfortunately you need to be registered to get access.

If you VMail me you email address I will send it through to you.

The patch itself is SUS_03_01 Fixes a few other things as well.

Its just over 14MB in total and that includes the PDF file. The patch on its own is 8MB.
