Longest commute?  [24/11/2006 15:44:35]

Anyone got a nightmare commute?

I'm averaging 3.5 hours each day, which is tough with a newly minted baby in the house (which means I don't always get an uninterrupted sleep) - but I'm sure there must be some truly awful commutes amongst our number?

Commutes  [24/11/2006 15:52:08]

I used to do Watford to Guildford every day.

2 hrs each way by train, M25 wouldn't have been quicker :-)

Watford - Clapham - Woking - Guildford

Ouch...

oh wow  [24/11/2006 20:43:42]

For the last year I lived in the same building I worked in (connected by skywalk actually) so my commute was about 4-5 minutes, sometimes double that depending on traffic (elevators).

I recently moved out of that building to a much nicer but slightly farther away neighborhood. I am still walking to work every morning, takes me about 30 minutes.

Living close to work is VERY important to me, I am not planning to spend 10% of my life commuting, no way.

Still Do  [26/11/2006 17:57:55]

Most Days its a two hour trip each way. Basingstoke to London.

This weekend though its been Basingstoke to Matlock. Prevoius maintainer removed a cable I needed for a call centre upgrade. So I have had to drive from Matlock to Basingstoke and back to pick one up. But thats not really commuting.

Not as bad as it could be.  [27/11/2006 12:06:49]

I nearly had to do Seaford to Guildford, but i didn't take the job, so Dave had to do Watford to Guildford instead! (My that was a long time ago)

I did Haywards Heath to Russell Square (London) for a bit, there's nothing quite like Victoria line in the morning to wake you up.

I now do Seaford to Gatwick which is approx an hour, but then I do live next to the station, and the pub and the Indian.

Hi John, where in Edinburgh are you to be based? Or do you mean that you're relocating up here?

Commute  [27/11/2006 14:07:52]

I live about 0.7 miles from the office so that's a 15 minute walk and a 2 minute drive.

I bought the house on this basis as traveling across Bristol every day was taking me up to an hour each way.

Commuting.  [1/12/2006 12:59:55]

Reading to Bournemouth(85 miles) and Reading to Guildford(35 miles).

Will be a much shorter commute when I, eventually, move house.
