The Petrol Head Thread  [4/3/2004 09:14:04]

Hi folks.

Just wondered what cars people own or drive. I'm a bit of a petrol-head in a sense, though nothing too flash. I drive a new-style Mini Cooper S in gunmetal grey with silver wing-mirrors. It's a great little car, quick (though thirsty), great handling and I think it's great looking.

What about you? Has anyone got anything really unusual or exotic (no, Mondeo's don't count ;) )??? I was (for a while) a member of a classic car club and fell for their 1972 purple Porsche 911 2.4E, so one day I'd like to find one of those or a similar-aged ducktail 2.7RS and live a road-tax exempt lifestyle, always watching out of course for those skinny tires and the fact that that engine is in the wrong place :)

I also have a rather curious, thirty-something compulsion to own a new BMW M5, though it's somewhat too pricy for me... pity.

I just sold my Golf Driver last week and upgraded to a Honda Civic Vtech in post box red, very happy with it so far but we will see how it handles on my holiday to the south of France.

Favourite car has to be the Karman Ghia, very very sexy car especially when customised.

Practical  [4/3/2004 09:49:31]

I have just sold my Rover 214 SLi and bought a Vauxhall Vectra. Haven't had it long enough to recall all the letters and numbers after its name and its too cold to go outside and have a look (or is that too much of a girl's response?)

Just hope the car seat we bought for the Rover fits....

Petrol head  [4/3/2004 09:53:02]

does Diesel head count.

I'm lucky enough to have a company car, but that makes it boring Citreon C5 estate (family with big teenagers).

However the favourite banger I had once was a triumph Dolomite 1850 HL with overdrive (shame it wasn't sprint).

Have always wanted an open top sports car.............dreams of a Morgan Plus 8

Girlie motor things...  [4/3/2004 09:55:43]

"is that too much of a girl's response?"

[big grin!]

I wouldn't dare comment =- it was my other half (who still hasn't registered for CCV after what is nearly three years as it happens (whatever happened to standing by yer man?)) who pushed for the S. She wanted to get our old car sprayed purple as it happens, but that was going to be quite a price and there was no guarantee it was going to look good.

Mrs C. is a bit of a petrol head herself, and I'm sure if she'd been born a boy she'd have already fitted the uprated this, that and t'other to the car not to mention a big stereo (I hate those 'booom booom booom' stereos that the boy racers all stick into their Novas... ;) )

Anyway, I digress...

Petrol Heads  [4/3/2004 10:29:34]

I also am lucky enough to have a company car - a very comfortable Audi A4 1.9TDi
- had the choice of the petrol or the diesel and I must say the diesel is excellent (at around 40-50 miles to the gallon it's a dirt cheap car to run!)

But I still do have my Peugeot 306 1.8 XS which I'm trying to sell. (Let me know if you need a good, sporty little number with excellent handling! Does this count as advetising...?) Could we start an automart section...?

Mine is a Honda Civic Aerodeck 1.6 petrol, nice estate (I need it for the bodies) heavy though....

Would love a British marque but need to do a bit more consulting....

Ian

MPV best  [10/3/2004 11:06:50]

Speed, speed, speed that's all you racers ever think about.

I drive a Picasso (or Pic in the mpv community), what you need is space, space, space and a good driving position. I still get everywhere as fast as the racers, but I arrive with my clothes unruffled, several children, a ton of luggage, sick bag, sweet wrappers.......what am I talking about, give me a Boxster.
