Riddle Zone  [1/6/2003 11:27:32]

Hi All!

Taking a look at the interaction going on I just thought I should ask a question.

Imagine my surprise when a kid (13 yrs), came up to me and asked -

" Can you tell me why crows sit on the Telephone Lines?"

I was foxed - and after a struggle gave up when the kid laughed at me and said try figuring it out.

So I am at it.

Any body to help?

I know I'll have the answer by the 3rd because this kid will not be able to keep it to himself, but I'd like to beat him to it.

Toying with us  [1/6/2003 16:50:39]

Hold on...we've jumped from helping a 13year old out with a deadline to..."Here's the next one"

If you really want to beat him then it kinda removes the self-satisfaction if we do it for you by saying "when he beats eggs and whips cream."

You sure there is a playful kid underlying all this?...somehow I'm not convinced. Looks like some training games to me. Shan't play any more.

Riddle Zone  [2/6/2003 10:07:57]

Hi!

It is Closed again who has beaten anyone else to it.

I do have a few more of riddles - and to answer him there really is a kid and there really is a set of close to 25 questions to be answered. I have managed a few and can post a few more - but I'll take you on your cue and post it if somebody else posts their interest.

I've got an even better idea.

Why can't we make the riddle zone more interesting ?
Give it a thought and decide whether rather than just jumping onto the next topic - maybe you can add a riddle or answer one - I started this thread but this thread belongs to every member of the forum.

Keep the riddles going.  [3/6/2003 13:12:45]

Go on, send another riddle. My brain needs some stimulation from time to time, rather than just showing an operative she cant login because her headset isnt plugged in...

Riddle zone  [3/6/2003 13:30:27]

This was what I was waiting for.
I figured this one out so it's got to be easy.
Would you mind if I held on to the answer?

I am the ruler of shovels
I have a double
I am as thin as a knife
I have a wife
What am I?

Take a break,

Mahidhar.

Riddle Answer and new Riddle  [9/6/2003 17:38:53]

A Casket

Here's a very old riddle that you may already know...

What builds up buildings and tears down mountains,
makes some men blind and helps others to see?

Is it "time"?

A box without hinges,
key, or lid,
yet inside, golden treasure is hid.

What am I?

Startling!  [9/6/2003 18:11:02]

Hi,

If the intent is to relax after all the serious discussions we seem to be heading in the right direction.

Here's one that I came across let us see if it tickles the gray cells:
There is a common English word that is nine letters long. Each time you remove a letter from it, it still remains an English word - from nine letters right down to a single letter. What is the original word, and what are the words that it becomes after removing one letter at a time?

Can any body figure the word?
I've already given the answer so let me give the rest of it:

The word apparently is startling

startling-starting-staring - string - sting - sing - sin - in - I

Does any body have a similar word.

Precious...  [9/6/2003 22:57:01]

Answer to my riddle: Sand (builds up buildings as concrete, sand in the wind wears down mountains, people are blinded by sand in their eyes, and glass (made out of sand) helps people to see.)

Wig's riddle answer: An egg, 'Precious' ;)

Another old riddle: What moves on 4 legs in the morning, 2 legs in the afternoon, 3 in the evening and none at night?

Marianne has read the same books...  [10/6/2003 00:10:33]

Sand...good one.

And to the other old riddle-- that's Aristotle's, isn't it? Man walks on all fours as an infant, two legs as an adult, uses a cane as an oldster, and walks no more after the sun of life has set.

This thing,
devours all things,
birds, beasts, trees, flowers,
gnaws iron,
bites steel,
grinds hard bones to meal,
kills king,
ruins town,
brings high mountain down.

And please, no replies from readers of Tolkien (incl. Marianne).

cheese made   [10/6/2003 07:13:58]

That is good going.

Tarun all we need is your answer.

MM .., WP.., that was a good style of riddling.

Here's another that was thrown at me.

What is reverse of made cheese!

Quite frankly I did not know the answer myself. So when I sneaked a look at the answer it said EDAM Cheese.

EDAM is the reverse of made.

Mahidhar  [10/6/2003 13:35:09]

Good Word plays Mahidhar!

Please do me a favor and either add a lot of spaces (like 15-20) between the question and the answer, or wait a day before posting the answer, so I have time to puzzle it over. :)

Thanks!
Marianne
