Organised chatroom discussions  [21/6/2001 16:04:51]

Hi everyone.

We're planning organised chatroom discussions at set times, and would like some feedback about what time suits you best. As this site has members from as far afield as Australia, Fiji, etc., if you could state your timezone (if you know it), preferably relative to Greenwich Mean Time (i.e. UK time, GMT).

Also if there's a particular topic you want to discuss, feel free to raise it here.

All the best,

John

Still looking for ideas...  [26/7/2001 08:39:55]

Hi everyone.

We're still looking for ideas and a time for our first 'organised-in-advance' chatroom session. If anyone has any ideas for topics, please let us know, or if anyone has a particular time that they'd like to arrange the sessions for, also let us know.

Otherwise, I'm sure it'll either be a party-of-one or organised chaos ;-)

Discussions, continued  [24/8/2001 09:28:41]

Hiya Rachel,

Yes, this weekend we will be testing and hopefully rolling out a new chatroom which will at the very least allow you to see who is currently logged into the chatroom. We will also be adding a section which will show a 'diary' of forthcoming chat sessions, and if we can figure out a reliable way of doing it, we'll add an 'invite' mechanism to 'Voice so that you can organise your own discussions as well.

In the meanwhile, we appreciate that it's frustrating at times when you want to chat but there's no-one there. We're keen to change this, so please bear with us whilst we sort it out.

Update on the new chatroom...  [26/8/2001 18:16:55]

Hi folks.

We've been working like crazy on a new, improved chatroom today, but we're not entirely happy with it yet. So, hopefully we'll get a chance to complete it tomorrow or on Tuesday this week and you will then have a new, improved chatroom (with an indicator shoing who is actually on at a given time).

Best wishes,

John

The new chatroom is live...  [28/8/2001 19:53:10]

Hi folks.

After a bit of hassle, we finally launched the new chatroom a short while ago.

Everything should work pretty much as it did before, except that there's more space to view the chat, the 'who's in' list shows who is logged in and you can also now print the contents of the chatroom frame before it scrolls off. Other enhancements include an increased input size (1024 characters instead of 256 as was) and the chatroom goes back 50 'entries' rather than 32 like before.

Just a couple of tips - ensure that you exit the chatroom using the button or hyperlink, otherwise the 'Members in the chatroom' bit won't be necessarily accurate (as you'll appear to be here when in fact you aren't). Blame ASP sessions or something like that. Hope you like it anyway!

If you spot anything amiss, or if you have any feedback, please don't hesitate to let us know...

Thanks again for your patience, hopefully the site will be that little bit more enjoyable for you now!

Organised discussions - comments, please...  [28/11/2001 14:36:53]

Hi folks.

We're looking to get the organised discussion thing rolling soon - although I expect the new year is the best time to start, as I expect many of us will be beginning to wind down for the Christmas break soon.

So, in preparation for the new year, if you have any good ideas for organised discussion topics, please reply to this topic and we'll do our best to have them scheduled in for the chatroom.

Thanks,

John
