RIDDLES NEW( TO ME)!..HERE ARE A FEW  [14/6/2003 16:49:25]

Hi!

Weekend time and you should be able to figure it out.
Here goes:

When young, I am sweet in the sun.
When middle-aged, I make you gay.
When old, I am valued more than ever.

Reply if not received by 16th will be posted on the 17th.

If you manage to find the answer which should not be difficult, then try figuring this one out

Until I am measured
I am not known,
Yet how you miss me
When I have flown

If you recognise this riddle, spend some to trace this guy, which as a 17th century riddle Reads:

Who is he that runneth through the hedge, his house on his back?

And finally the riddle I face:

I started it for a lark,
It has made a mark,
I enjoy it!
Do you too,
And may it be more than a yes or no!

Hey Wig, what's the answer  [17/6/2003 17:50:48]

You stumped me on your riddle. Please post the answer?

Mahindar I know the first three, but the last has me stumped.

Thanks,
Marianne

New Riddle:David Jones, and American writer was found slumped dead on his desk in a hotel in London. A suicide note was found by his desk. A bellhop stated to the police, "I'm surprised. He looked so excited to finally come to a place where one of his novels took place. I don't get it." One of the cops read the suicide note by his desk: It doesn't matter anymore. The honour of writing has brought me no pleasure anymore. I search to the centre of my soul to find more ideas, but they turn out to be trashy novels. So I wait as the colour fades from my eyes, to hope to have a better afterlife. "He didn't commit suicide, he was murdered." How did the cop know this?

answer  [17/6/2003 18:18:28]

I know a word of letters three,
add one, and fewer there will be.

["One"-- a word of letters three,
add one letter "n", and you get
"none."]

I know a word of letters three,
add two, and more there will be.

["Six", add two-- "ty", for "sixty".]

The first is in the first,
take the next step, for the second,

[The first answer is "in the first"
couplet of the riddle-- "one". Take
the next step, complete the second
couplet, to get "sixty".]

Who are we?

[Who are we? Both one number "sixty-one",
and two, "sixty"..."one".]

I'm sure the riddle could be improved...

And, on your latest riddle, let me answer,
with a riddle...

"Because the hotel isn't in Rome?"

riddle zone  [18/6/2003 09:20:01]

Hi,

Thanx Marianne and Wig for keeping up the tempo.

Marianne you need to post the replies so lets give it one more day.

As for your riddle, since there is one reply awaiting your reply I watch.

Coming to the fourth riddle that stumped you while I wait for you to post the replies, if thhe last one is the one that reads:

I started it for a lark,
It has made a mark,
I enjoy it!
Do you too,
And may it be more than a yes or no!

This was not a riddle but a survey, on this thread, "The Riddle Zone",
which I put across.

Just remember " May it more than a yes or no".

David Jones answer  [20/6/2003 18:49:56]

David Jones, the American author, did not write the note. An American would not have written colour, honour and centre, he would have written color, honor and center. So he was murdered by a non-American.

Reply to Jubril SABA  [23/6/2003 17:37:41]

Jubril, you asked...

...However, I am still a bit confused about the David Jones one posted by MM. Someone replied Rome, I dont get it...

Marianne answered her riddle thus:

David Jones, the American author, did not write the note. An American would not have written colour, honour and centre, he would have written color, honor and center. So he was murdered by a non-American.

I had answered her riddle, like this:

And, on your latest riddle, let me answer,
with a riddle...

"Because the hotel isn't in Rome?"

An American author in London would **notice** that the English spell the words colour, honour and centre. When in Rome, one does as the Romans do. But London is not Rome...

Anyhow.

Refreshers & riddles  [26/6/2003 07:38:11]

Hi,

Here's this riddle that came up during a discussion in a refresher class.
One of the participants got up to ask me a doubt:

Where do animals go when they lose their tails ?

Every body took their time, gave up and virtually bashed him up when he finally gave the answer - and it was so simple.

Try it, invite others to figure it out, and you may even find it published someplace, or may have seen the board next to a Hospital.

The idea to refresh ourselves midway through the week.

Riddle Zone is not meant to interfere with your work, but is around when you need to take a break.

Search around on your drive, but keep your eyes on the road.

Still searching for the retailing outlet ?  [27/6/2003 18:10:34]

Hi!

It appears there is still some search going on for the answer to the last riddle. Shows everyone has been busy - with work and driving around - looking for the retailing outlet. Ooops! I seem to have let the cat out of the bag.

So here's another for the weekend!

What happened in 1961 that will not happen again for over 4000 years?

Have a nice weekend.

I like the one about the animlas and tails. I wont post answer as I found it too easy. Hospital clue (I saw after wards) gives it away.

As for 1961

What a wonderful number. I just have a vision of sticking in a pin a spinning. So what would the next year be ?
